Age: 36
Children: 2 – In Venezuela
When did you arrive in Curacao? 3 years ago
How did you get to Curacao?  By plane
Profession in Venezuela: Teacher in Basic Education

What circumstances made you come to Curacao?
First the misery… the lack of everything. The lack of enough food to feed my children five times daily. The absence of work and thus insufficient income to support my family. And…the violence, and also the inability to acquire a house to provide a home for my children. With the current government all that is not possible.
Where is your family at this time?
I’m here with my brother and my husband. My husband also hadto come because the situation there got worse, and I got sick after working here alone for a year.
If you could choose in which country to live, in what country would you live?
 Venezuela.
If the situation in Venezuela improves, would you go back?
 Yes.
Is theresomething elsethat you want to add or say?
Yes. My message is for all those people who are outside of Venezuela. That every beginning is difficult. That we must have strength and a lot of will. Because not everything is going to be bad, not everything will be black for our country. That we must fight, that we must do things well and that we learn, so that everything we learned outside our country can be put into practice the day we return.

The world news on the situation in Venezuela is highlighted from many angles: from the poignant food and medicine shortages to developments at the global geopolitical level. But what is invisible in the reports about numbers, international problems and possible solutions is the true face of those displaced, the many undocumented, and therefore illegal, Venezuelans abroad.
With this project, “The Hidden Voices of undocumented Venezuelans on Curacao”, we offer a chance for personal experiences to be heard, giving a voice in the media for these men and women, students and professionals, forced to live in the shadows of our society. My hope is that this project can change hearts and inspire support for those displaced and living in hiding by bringing attention to the individual stories from these hidden voices.
